[HLMainPic] An old bookseller's catalogue note attached to front paste-down (describing this copy) states: "This book was owned by Lt.-Col. G. Osborn Smith, 1st Royal Irish Fusiliers, whose grandfather was a nephew of Worge. Notes & underlining on the family connections are made in the text. Worge fought at Culloden & on the Continent & was later sent to Senegal as Governor, where he ousted the French. There are accounts of Dettingen & Fontenoy... Bumped & worn corners. Spine worn at ends & hinges glued where split." This description still stands, with my addition that it is inscribed by Col. Osborn Smith to paste-down, the binding is original red cloth, blindstamped & gilt, generally VG, & rare. See illustrations on our website.   £275

Ladendorf (279) states: "Poorly written & gives no new information to history. Much detail on medical service & treatment of wounds" - but she is citing an Antheum [sic] review of 1898. Raugh (6511) adds: "Gordon was reportedly surgeon of the 10th Native Infantry during the Indian Mutiny. About 40 pages of his autobiography cover the Indian Mutiny, specifically the Joonpore Field Force, capture of Lucknow, & the Azimgurh Field Force." Orig. red cloth, gilt, sp. little sunned o/w VG.
